Job Description
Please note: This is a maternity cover fixed term contract
Do you enjoy working with numbers and want to build your accounting career in a role that really makes a difference?
We’re looking for a detail-focused and motivated Assistant Service Charge Accountant to join our Finance team at PA Housing. This is a great opportunity to develop your skills while playing a key role in ensuring our service charges are accurate, transparent, and fair for residents.
You’ll work closely with our Service Charge Accountant and wider teams to support the full service charge cycle — from budgets to year-end statements — helping us deliver high-quality financial information and excellent customer service.
This isn’t just about accounting — it’s about making sure residents understand what they’re paying for and ensuring we deliver value for money.
What’s in it for you….
In addition to the salary, we offer a number of benefits, including:
- High street discount schemes
- Health cash plans
- 26 days’ annual leave, increasing to 29 after three years, with the opportunity to buy more
- Flexible bank holidays – take them when it suits you
- Car leasing scheme
- Hybrid working – offering you the flexibility to thrive in your role. You'll have the opportunity to blend the best of both worlds, spending approximately two to three days per week in the office once settled in the role. This is flexible and depends on meeting cycles and board activity. We also offer an optional nine-day fortnight scheme, allowing you to compress your hours if it suits the role.
What you’ll be doing……
- Support the preparation of service charge budgets and year-end statements
- Assist with monthly accounting processes including journals, accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations
- Review and analyse service charge costs, investigating variances and providing clear commentary
- Work with budget holders and internal teams to ensure costs are accurately recorded and allocated
- Produce financial data and analysis to support decision-making
- Help deliver the full service charge cycle, ensuring deadlines are met
- Support the production and review of scheme-level budgets and statements
- Liaise with auditors and support audit requirements
- Maintain and improve data accuracy within service charge systems (including Bluebox)
- Respond to internal and external queries, providing clear and helpful information
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and drive efficiencies
What we’re looking for…
We’d love to hear from you if you:
- Are part-qualified (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) or working towards a qualification
- Have experience in a finance or accounting role (service charges experience is a bonus)
- Are confident working with financial data and large datasets
- Have strong Excel skills and enjoy analysing information
- Can manage your time effectively and meet tight deadlines
- Are a great communicator who can explain financial information clearly
- Enjoy working both independently and as part of a team
- Have a proactive, “can-do” attitude and a focus on continuous improvement
- Are interested in developing your knowledge of service charge accounting and housing finance
If specific qualifications are required, please upload them with your application to demonstrate your eligibility.
At PA Housing, we believe in respect, integrity, and accountability. Our work is about people – not just properties – and we’re always looking for ways to do better. If that sounds like your kind of place, we’d love to hear from you.
