Do you take pride in keeping places safe, clean, and running smoothly?
We’re looking for a reliable and hands-on Caretaker to join our Housing Operations team. This role is all about making sure our schemes are well maintained, safe, and welcoming for residents.
You’ll play a key part in day-to-day estate services — from carrying out minor repairs and safety checks to keeping communal areas clean and working with contractors. If you enjoy practical work, being out and about, and making a visible difference in communities, this could be the perfect role for you.
This isn’t just about maintenance — it’s about creating an environment where residents feel safe, supported, and proud to live.
What’s in it for you….
In addition to the salary, we offer a number of benefits, including:
- High street discount schemes
- Health cash plans
- 26 days’ annual leave, increasing to 29 after three years, with the opportunity to buy more
- Flexible bank holidays – take them when it suits you
- Car leasing scheme
- Hybrid working – offering you the flexibility to thrive in your role. You'll have the opportunity to blend the best of both worlds, spending approximately two to three days per week in the office once settled in the role. This is flexible and depends on meeting cycles and board activity. We also offer an optional nine-day fortnight scheme, allowing you to compress your hours if it suits the role.
What you’ll be doing……
- Carry out day-to-day caretaking and handyperson duties to keep schemes clean, safe, and well maintained
- Complete routine safety checks including fire alarms, lighting, entry systems, and escape routes
- Perform basic repairs such as lock changes, minor maintenance, and reporting defects
- Perform basic redecoration of flats including full paint and gloss work
- Maintain communal areas including cleaning, waste management, and graffiti removal
- Support grounds maintenance tasks such as cutting the boundary hedge, maintaining lawns and play areas for communal use, litter picking, sweeping, and minor gardening
- Work closely with contractors, ensuring access and supporting planned works
- Identify and report health and safety risks, security concerns, or maintenance issues
- Support residents, communicating clearly and providing a helpful, customer-focused service
- Assist in emergency situations such as floods, break-ins, or restoring site security
- Listing and reporting repairs, done under time constraints and the need on occasions for over time
What we’re looking for…
We’d love to hear from you if you:
- Have experience in a caretaking, maintenance, or similar hands-on role
- Have basic skills in general repairs (e.g. plumbing, carpentry, or similar)
- Understand health and safety requirements in a residential or site-based environment
- Are reliable, organised, and able to manage your own workload
- Enjoy working both independently and as part of a team
- Have a positive, “can-do” attitude and take pride in your work
- Are customer-focused and comfortable interacting with residents, including vulnerable individuals
If specific qualifications are required, please upload them with your application to demonstrate your eligibility.
At PA Housing, we believe in respect, integrity, and accountability. Our work is about people – not just properties – and we’re always looking for ways to do better. If that sounds like your kind of place, we’d love to hear from you.
